From July 9–20, 2025, the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of the Polish Medical Mission is on a mission in Uganda, in partnership with the Agandi Foundation. The goal is to improve healthcare access for children in a local orphanage and nearby villages through specialist consultations, diagnostics, and preventive care.
In this underserved region, each intervention makes a real difference. The mission also serves as field training for EMT volunteers, simulating crisis-zone conditions with high patient volume and limited resources. The team includes: Maciej Frączek – orthopedic trauma surgeon (Scanmed, Kraków); Krystian Jakimowicz – cardiac surgeon (Silesian Center for Heart Diseases); Paweł Parfieńczyk – nurse specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care, with training in extreme and travel medicine; Katarzyna Bąk – midwife and surgical nurse with years of experience in Kraków.
– EMT volunteers save lives and train under extreme conditions—time pressure, minimal infrastructure, limited supplies. It’s invaluable experience – says Ewa Piekarska-Dymus, President of the Polish Medical Mission.
PMM EMT provides rapid, professional aid in disaster and crisis zones. In 2024, PMM teams operated in six countries, completing 30 missions and providing 3,233 medical consultations. Volunteering with PMM is not only about fieldwork—it’s also a path for professional and personal growth in unique settings.
