The renewed fighting in Gaza has resulted in over 400 Palestinian deaths within just 24 hours—marking the highest toll since the early weeks of the conflict. Israel’s humanitarian blockade, imposed on March 2, has further deepened the crisis, cutting off access to food, medicine, and fuel for Gaza’s 2.1 million residents.
– The renewed airstrikes and blockade have turned Gaza into hell on earth again – says Małgorzata Olasińska-Chart from the Polish Medical Mission.
The crisis is worsening on multiple levels. The shutdown of a desalination plant has left 600,000 people without clean water, food prices have tripled in northern Gaza, and bakeries supported by the World Food Programme have closed due to a lack of cooking gas. Meanwhile, doctors sent by the Polish Medical Mission continue their work at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, struggling with severe shortages of medical supplies.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, at least 48,577 Palestinians have died since the conflict escalated, with civilians making up an estimated 75-80% of the casualties. On the Israeli side, over 1,600 people have been killed, about half of whom were civilians from the October 7, 2023, attack.
