Every 10th person in Gaza killed or wounded

In the last 20 months, almost 65,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 164,000 wounded in Gaza — meaning every tenth resident has been harmed. Former Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi admitted this is “not a delicate war.” Reports suggest the real death toll may be even higher.

The scale of civilian casualties in Gaza is several times greater than in the longer war in Ukraine. Beyond direct victims of bombings, thousands more are believed to be dying from untreated chronic diseases and hunger. Humanitarian organizations warn that the true number of deaths could be tens of thousands higher than official figures.

Conditions on the ground are catastrophic. Famine has been declared in Gaza City, with one in five children suffering severe malnutrition. Hospitals lack medicine, antibiotics, food, and clean water, forcing doctors to watch patients die from preventable causes.

“Gaza is a death zone. Every day doctors face patients who could be saved — if only there were medicines, antibiotics, food, or clean water,” says Jakub Belina-Brzozowski from the Polish Medical Mission.

Each month, doctors from Poland and Jordan work in Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah, performing dozens of emergency surgeries daily on victims of bombings and shelling. Planned operations and routine treatments are suspended due to the collapse of the health system. What remains is only crisis response in a war that shows no signs of ending.
