Imagine a small village in Ethiopia, 3,000 meters above sea level near an extinct volcano. The stunning landscapes contrast with the daily struggles of extreme poverty and food scarcity, which severely impact the health of its residents—especially children like 6-year-old Alami.
In May 2023, Alami was hospitalized due to severe malnutrition, appearing much younger than her age. Intensive treatment with therapeutic food stabilized her condition, allowing her to return home. However, by July, her health deteriorated again, and she was readmitted with sepsis and recurrent malnutrition. Despite medical care, the harsh living conditions remain a constant threat. Recently, she faced acute malnutrition again but is now recovering thanks to ongoing medical support.
To break this cycle, long-term solutions are essential. Providing food staples like rice, oil, and legumes, along with livestock—goats, sheep, and chickens—can help ensure sustainable nutrition. Supporting the family with vegetable farming and basic infrastructure, such as animal shelters, is equally critical for their independence.
Polska Misja Medyczna is working to secure a brighter future for Alami and her family. Every donation contributes to improving their living conditions and health. Join us in making a difference: Pilnie potrzebna pomoc dla 6-letniej Alami z Etiopii!
