Urgent call for Beirut

Reading time
2 minutes

A massive blast of explosives in the Lebanese capital has brought dramatic results. At least 100 people are dead and about 4,000 have been injured. All buildings within a radius of a few kilometres were completely destroyed, including 5 hospitals. The Polish Medical Mission started a collection to help the victims of the explosion and to provide support to hospitals.

Beirut hospitals are unable to accommodate thousands of wounded, as these have already become full within just a few hours of the disaster. Some of the medical facilities have been destroyed, and the doctors are helping people on the streets. The Polish Medical Mission has activated a special SOS Fund and is asking for support

—  says Małgorzata Olasińska-Chart, Director of the PMM Humanitarian Aid Programme.

The Polish Medical Mission is now focusing on providing medical assistance to hospitals so that the injured have access to medicines, dressings and medical equipment. PMM operates on the spot with the Lebanese Amel Organization.
